Production Resources

The Filmpool has a large collection of film and video cameras (Super 8, 16mm, Super 16 mm and Digital Video), lighting and grip equipment, and sound recording equipment. In addition the Filmpool rents off-line digital video editing, ProTools sound, 16 mm Flatbed, Optical printing and an Oxberry Animation stand.

The Filmpool is mandated to support independent filmmaking originating in Saskatchewan. We have two different rate sheets (member or commercial) depending on your project. Independent projects that are non-commercial in nature, and meet the criteria of the Filmpool, can access equipment at the member's rate. All other projects have access to Filmpool resources and equipment at commercial rates. Even a member creating a film that is not eligible for member rates is considered a commercial renter.

Filmpool members of at least three months, who are in good standing are eligible for members' rental rates. The equipment and facilities of the Filmpool are available for rental to individuals who can demonstrate an appropriate skill level for the resource requested. People unable to demonstrate the necessary skills are encouraged to attend scheduled equipment workshops offered at the Filmpool. Individual workshops may be arranged through the Production Coordinator, in accordance with the Filmpool's staff schedule and availability. Workshop fees are applicable.

EQUIPMENT BOOKINGS

All equipment bookings are made through the Production Coordinator, during Filmpool business hours. It is the renter's responsibility to confirm all bookings. Bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

All cancellations must be declared a minimum of 24 hours prior to the time of the booking. Failure to do so will result in a $30 penalty fee to cover the inconvenience of preparing the booking and for prohibiting others from using the equipment during this time.

Equipment is preferred to be checked out between 12:00 and 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Equipment is due back by 11:00 am on the date of return unless prior arrangements have been made with the Production Coordinator.

When checking equipment out renters should inspect all pieces before leaving, as they accept full liability for damages found upon return of the equipment. All equipment has been thoroughly checked by Filmpool Production Staff, with damage as noted; any new damage will be noted and charged to the renter.

FACILTIES ACCESS and KEYS

People wishing to access Filmpool facilities outside regular business hours may sign out the appropriate keys and obtain a security access code for the alarm system from Filmpool staff. A list of facility rental rates can be found below. A $20 key deposit is payable when picking up keys. Keys rented will not be duplicated. Keys not returned within 30 days of the due date will be considered lost. Lost keys result in a deposit forfeit and the renter will be billed for the replacement of the key(s) and subsequent lock(s) replacement as well.

Non-members booking any Filmpool facilities are required to pay a $40 deposit, to be refunded after the facilities have met an approved condition, at the Production Coordinator's discretion

Renters not leaving facilities in a clean and immediately usable state after leaving will have access privileges suspended and will be charged an additional cleaning fee, depending on individual circumstances. Cleaning cost is $25/hour.

The Filmpool is not responsible for lost, missing, damaged or stolen editing materials or other resources forgotten at the Filmpool during your booking.

EQUIPMENT DEPOSITS and FEES

All renters must sign and agree to the Equipment Use Agreement form before any equipment is released to their custody. Rented Filmpool equipment may not be leased or loaned to any other person, production or organization. The equipment shall remain at all times under the immediate control, supervision and direction of the renter. Equipment may not be removed from the province of Saskatchewan, nor e taken from the ground in an aeroplane, helicopter, tethered balloon, boat or used for stunt purposes without prior approval of the Production Coordinator and the Production Chair.

All renters must pay a $30 refundable deposit before equipment can leave Filmpool premises, with the exception of the Arri SR ll package or Panasonic HVX HD. The deposit will be refunded to the renter when the equipment is returned to the Filmpool in satisfactory condition. Renters of the Arri SR ll camera package will pay a $500 refundable deposit. Renters of the Panasonic HVX HD will pay a $200 refundable deposit.

At the discretion of the Production Coordinator, an equipment deposit will be forfeited if equipment is returned late, damaged, soiled, incomplete or improperly packaged. The Filmpool may also bill the renter for expenses beyond the deposit if applicable. Additional expenses may include: professional equipment repair (at current rate), replacement of missing items (at current market value), a $30/hour labour charge for cleaning, packing and/or repair, or replacement of any materials or parts required to repair damaged equipment.

WORKSHOPS and TRAINING

Workshops are available throughout the year on various equipment and facilities. Visit our current events for upcoming workshops and events. Contact the Filmpool if you are interested in a workshop you would like to see held at the Filmpool, we appreciate the feedback. Arrangements can also be made with Filmpool Production staff for one-on-one training at an hourly rate. For details please contact the Filmpool.

Basic Members wanting to come in and learn a piece of equipment/program without staff support are able to do so at no cost at the discretion and scheduling of the Production Coordinator.

To access our equipment or for further information please contact our Production Coordinator at 306-757-8818.
