18 years later, I revisited my first “home.” Nothing seems to change, and nothing seems the same.


Winner of 2019 SIFA Best Student Film

A new immigrant to Canada, Weiye Su was born in Guangdong province, China. He majored in film production with a minor in photography at the University of Regina. As a newcomer to Saskatchewan, his films focus on Saskatchewan stories from a Chinese perspective and utilize prairie landscapes in visual storytelling. His student films, Gone, Gone, Gone with the Winn’s, Evelyn and I and My World Is No Longer The World I Knew, were selected in many national and international film festivals. In 2017 and 2018, Weiye served as the coordinator of the Living Skies Student Film Festival. He received production funding in the emerging filmmaker category from the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative and Saskatchewan Art Board for his post-university film/ photography project, I Travel To Night Through The Sun. Weiye is currently working on his post-university documentary, Passage Beyond Fortune.
