ANALOG FILM ENCOUNTER – PRINTING WITH LIGHT Optical Printing and Contact Printing Workshop

ANALOG FILM ENCOUNTER - PRINTING WITH LIGHT
Optical Printing and Contact Printing Workshop
Date and Time: JUNE 15th,  10am-4pm
Location:  Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative

In this workshop, Matthew Ripplinger will demonstrate two modes of printing with light, as a means to rephotograph motion picture film, produce special visual effects, and create film prints.  Participants will gain hands on experience with the Filmpool's JK Optical Printer, as well as do-it-yourself contact printing methods with 16mm film.  Within this realm of film making we will cover valuable techniques such as double exposures and step printing on the optical printer, and also rayograms with contact printing.  Also, we will spend some time with camera-less film making such as collage, scratch animation, and direct applications to the film that can be carried over into optical and contact printing.  There will be materials provided to create films with, though we also encourage participants to bring their own processed film or materials that they might like to rephotograph or print in any way.  At the end of the workshop, Matt will process the film and return the work to the filmmakers.  Participants will leave this workshop with a broader understanding of analog experimental film making techniques, and a mini short film they produce on black and white 16mm film created with these two modes of printing with light.
