How To Shoot Your Short Film with Lowell Dean

This course was so successful last year the Filmpool just knew we had to offer it again. The Filmpool is proud to bring back for a second edition, Lowell Dean’s HOW TO SHOOT YOUR SHORT FIILM workshop-course. This Filmpool workshop-course gives you the tools and motivation to create your own short film in just 7 weeks. The rest is up to you!

HOW TO SHOOT YOUR (SHORT) FILM with Lowell Dean, discusses the good, bad and ugly of short film production through video examples, discussions and practical assignments. Those taking the seminar will be encouraged to create their own short film over the course of the seminar (7 weeks).

Class Breakdown: Tuesday nights March 20 – Motivation & Ideas March 27 – Scriptwriting April 3 – Preproduction April 10 – Production April 17 – Production II April 24 – Post Production & Promotion May 1 – Post Mortem, Screening, Discussions

COST: $140 for the public / non-members or $110 if you are a current member of the Filmpool. This cost includes instruction and supplies, but does not include equipment. Equipment can be rented from the Filmpool for the purposes of creating a film during this course.

LOWELL DEAN BIO: Lowell Dean has been working in the Regina Film and Television Industry since graduating from the University of Regina (Film & Video Program). He has worked as a shooter, editor, producer and director for companies like SCN, Birdsong Communications and CBC. Last year he directed Hollywood (Saskatchewan) II, a three-part behind the scenes documentary on the prairie film industry, produced by Minds Eye Entertainment. Over the last decade Lowell has strived to balance career with independent projects, producing and directing at least one short film annually. This past year, he wrote and directed three projects – a short for the I Heart Regina anthology feature (which premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival), Juice Pigs (an epic action comedy that played to sold out shows in Saskatchewan), and Henry (a music video for Rah Rah that aired as the #1 viewers choice video on Much Music).
