CELEBRATING THE BEST OF SASKATCHEWAN INDEPENDENT FILM 8th Annual Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards | Nominee Announcement
Monday November 8th, 2021, 1:00pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REGINA, SK., — The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative is proud to announce the nominees for the 8th Annual Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards (SIFA), which will take place online on Saturday, November 27th.
This year’s SIFA has nominees in five categories: Best Short Film, Best Student Film, Best Technical Achievement, Best Performance, and a new category this year: Best Music Video. The winner of the popular Audience Choice Award will be determined by viewers who tune in during the live SIFA event on November 27th.
The SIFA, presented by the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, celebrates the best in Saskatchewan filmmaking. “The tenacity and spirit of independent filmmaking in our province, even during the trying times of the pandemic, is shown by the record number of submissions received this year, which included dramatic, documentary, and experimental films,” says Filmpool Executive Director Hagere Selam Zegeye-Gebrehiwot.
The nominees were selected by a jury of filmmakers from across Western Canada: Saskatoon Producer and Director Larry Bauman, the Executive Director of CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers in Victoria, BC David Geiss, and Edmonton-based National Film Board Producer Chehala Leonard. The jurors were very impressed by the quality and range of the submissions, and found it very challenging to narrow their choices to five nominees per category.
SIFA and The Saskatchewan Filmpool cooperative Cooperative would like to thank our Award Naming Sponsors:
Best Short - SMPIA
Best Student - Department of Film ,University of Regina
Best Technical Achievement - Java Post Productions
